New Web Site Plays Motor Cyber Expert,
Guides Customers Through Simple Online Motor Design
MyHurst.com offers personalized motor ordering, tracking capabilities

Princeton, IN, Feb. 12, 2002...Enter the halls of the new Hurst Manufacturing Web site and you've entered a virtual environment where motors are designed right on your computer screen, motor samples are delivered within 48 hours, motors are priced, orders are taken, and online experts are always available to field your toughest technical questions.

Hurst, a leader in Brushless DC motor technology, recently launched its upgraded Web site at www.hurstmfg.com. This innovative site is setting the trend by making it easy for customers with varying degrees of motor expertise to configure a motor online. By clicking on answers to a series of simple, broad questions, customers are guided through the motor configuration process. With Hurst's NT Dynamo(r) line of Brushless DC motors, sample motors can be designed online and a sample delivered in a record 48 hours or less.

"We are really pushing the envelope with our latest innovations to the Web site," said Nick Segobiano, Director of Sales & Marketing, Automotive & Precision Motor Division. "Market research indicates that many of our buyers have limited motor expertise. We responded to this by creating an online motor design feature, which incorporates simple questions about a motor's application that help lead to a specific motor design. We then bundled that with other e-business tools to allow our customers to design a motor on-line, order that design, and get a sample motor delivered in less than 48 hours, as opposed to weeks or even months with other companies. This can be done at www.hurstmfg.com twenty-four hours a day, 7 days a week."

For customized information and personalized service, users can register for a free account within a unique area of the site called MyHurst.com. A world of difference in how motors are ordered, MyHurst.com enables the user to assemble a motor online, get a price quote, and place and track orders, all without searching through confusing catalogs and making repeat calls to engineers.

Two new online design tools have been added to MyHurst.com, making it even easier to design an application-specific motor. The first tool is a simple six-step BLDC (Brushless DC) motor configurator that leads a customer through a selection process from pre-engineered modules to create a customer-specific motor and control. More than 6,000 unique products can be created with the click of a mouse.

"Our online design tool is not just our catalog in electronic format," Segobiano said. "It serves as your cyber motor expert. When you don't know the questions to ask or the specific information to request, MyHurst.com does the thinking for you."

A second design tool uses key performance requirements to search a database of all existing Hurst products. Easy-to-use drop down menus guide the customer through the process. Searches can be performed when the customer does not know the requirements for all five of the key performance values. Once a motor is configured using a design tool, the customer instantly has access to a part number, dimensional diagrams, and technical specifications.

MyHurst.com registrants can keep track of all their motor designs in their personalized Motor Design Center, join discussion groups on various motor topics and delete or add links to their favorite industry Web sites. MyHurst.com also features an online support team to answer customers' technical questions.

"MyHurst.com is unlike anything I have seen in the industry," said Segobiano. "The site makes it so easy to find what you need. All the information and tools you need to create a motor is right at your fingertips, anytime of day, anywhere in the world. The goal of MyHurst.com is to make the overall motor purchase less painful and more productive."

For added convenience, the site also contains an overview of the company; detailed information and photos of Hurst's motors, gear boxes and controllers; a technical help information section and a part number search.

Established in 1950, Hurst Manufacturing is a part of Emerson Motor Company based in St. Louis, MO (www.emersonmotors.com). Hurst's product development teams have direct access to all technology support functions of the world's leading motor company. This collaboration has allowed Hurst to introduce new innovative motor and control designs that provide improved performance and affordability in brushless DC technology.
